Designing Silicone Pet Products: Safety, Comfort and Manufacturability

Pet products need to survive handling, cleaning and repeated use while remaining comfortable for animals and convenient for owners. Silicone is versatile, but the product still needs a clear, testable specification.

Define the pet and owner use case

State the animal size, bite or chew exposure, grip needs, cleaning routine and storage conditions. A feeding mat, grooming tool, toy accessory or travel bowl may require different hardness, wall thickness and texture.

Choose material and texture

Specify hardness, color, odor expectations and the surfaces that contact food, skin or fur. FDA-compliant silicone material options may be considered for applicable food-contact projects, subject to exact formulation and use-case review. Select texture carefully: it should improve grip without creating difficult-to-clean recesses.

Design for cleaning and durability

Use smooth transitions where possible and mark any drainage, folding or snap-fit features. Identify critical dimensions, cosmetic faces, flash limits and assembly interfaces. Compression molding, extrusion and high-temperature injection molding can be reviewed according to the geometry.

Requirement Design question
Grip Does the texture remain secure when wet?
Cleaning Can the owner reach every surface?
Durability Which areas flex, compress or receive impact?

Plan production

Send a dimensioned drawing and CAD file for manufacturability review. Typical MOQ is 3,000 pieces; sampling is approximately 7 days and batch production is approximately 15 days after sample approval and order confirmation. Plan packaging and inspection around the approved sample.

FAQ

Can the design include a logo or raised pattern?

Yes. Mark the logo or pattern in the drawing and identify the cosmetic surface so it can be reviewed with draft and demolding.

How do I protect a new pet-product concept?

Use the confidential upload flow. Files are limited to the authorized administrator, retained for 30 days, and accepted in PDF, STEP/STP or DWG format.
