- FAQ
1. Define the project brief
Start with the part function, target market, dimensions, annual demand and required launch date. Explain where the silicone part will be used: kitchenware, medical and healthcare, beauty and personal care, automotive, pet products or baby products. The use case affects hardness, color, surface finish, sealing needs and documentation.
Confirm the commercial target early. Silicone Nest works with a typical MOQ of 3,000 pieces. Sampling is approximately 7 days, while batch production is approximately 15 days after sample approval and order confirmation.
2. Prepare and review the drawing
Provide a dimensioned PDF together with a 3D STEP/STP or 2D DWG file when available. Mark critical dimensions, tolerances, parting lines, draft, sealing surfaces, cosmetic areas and any assembly interfaces. If a dimension is not critical, state the acceptable range so the design can be reviewed for manufacturability.
Use the confidential upload form for project drawings. It accepts PDF, STEP/STP and DWG, up to 5 files, 5 MB each and 25 MB total. Uploaded files are restricted to the administrator and retained for 30 days.
3. Select the manufacturing process
| Process | Typical fit | Design focus |
|---|---|---|
| Compression molding | Seals, gaskets and 3D parts | Parting line, flash control and uniform wall sections |
| Extrusion | Continuous profiles, tubing and cord | Cross-section accuracy, cut length and downstream assembly |
| High-temperature injection molding | Repeatable molded parts at volume | Gate location, tooling layout and balanced filling |
The best option depends on geometry, volume, tolerance and finish. A process review should happen before tooling is finalized.
4. Sampling and approval
After the drawing and process are aligned, the first sample checks fit, function, appearance and key dimensions. Record any changes on the drawing revision. Approval should identify the exact sample, color, hardness and inspection points that become the production reference.
5. Batch production and inspection
Once the approved sample and order details are confirmed, batch production can be scheduled. Incoming material, molding conditions, trimming and final inspection should follow the project specification. For applications that require FDA-related material options, confirm the exact formulation and intended use during the quotation review.
FAQ
Can I send several drawing files?
Yes. Send up to five files in PDF, STEP/STP or DWG format, with a 5 MB limit per file and 25 MB total.
What if my drawing is not complete?
Send the files you have and explain the missing information. A manufacturability review can identify the dimensions or decisions still needed.
When does the production lead time start?
The approximately 15-day batch-production estimate starts after sample approval and order confirmation, subject to the final project plan.
